The women had written the love letters to the Qajar dynasty monarch when he was on a journey to Paris. They had sent them by messengers, but they were probably never received by the king.
Iran’s Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization (CHTO) has made strenuous efforts to bring the historical items back to the country.
In order to acquire the letters, the history and details of their transferal must be reviewed first and a storage location must be identified as well, CHTO legal affairs official Maryam Taheri said on Wednesday.
Iran’s National Library and Documentation Center has signed agreements with several countries, according to which each country has pledged to provide films, microfilms, or slides of other countries’ cultural heritage artifacts in its possession, she added.
The Republic of Azerbaijan is one of the countries which signed the agreement, and therefore slides or microfilms of the documents must be submitted to Iran.
Although the documentation center is planning to make copies of the letters, the CHTO could also make a legal claim for the return of the originals to Iran.
